Syrakus - Mitoraj-Skulptur - Ikaro and Ikaria

"In the Cave of the Cordari, which has become the Sanctuary of Time, "Ikaro" and "Ikaria" are the masculine and feminine of Humanity itself. They represent the multiplicity of being women and men, all that we feel distant and often do not understand or even fear and marginalise:
that which for each of us is distant in time,
that which is distant in geography and
that which is distant in choice or living conditions."

Syrakus - Mitoraj-Skulptur - Birth of Venus

"The work marks the beginning of the exhibition itinerary; it is placed where the Latomia del Paradiso begins and where, until the 1950s, sll the land was still privately owned and, as today, cultivated with orchards. The two figures symbolise a birth, that of Venus, wihich is expressive of an inner rebirth through the duality of humanitas and phyiss:
the relationship between the dimension of man and the of nature. The "Birth of Venus" shows, upside down, the face of Igor Mitoraj, who from the first encounter becomes a companion on our journey through the exhibition."
